Morang Desh Ventures is a company with a deep-rooted connection to the history and people of Bihar. Our name, “Morang Desh,” pays homage to the significant migration history of the region. Morang, a district in Nepal bordering Bihar, holds a special place in the hearts of the people of North Bihar. For generations, the people of North Bihar have embarked on journeys as laborers, driven by the pursuit of opportunities beyond their homeland. Among these destinations, Morang stood out as a favorite, positioned just across the border, and etched into the collective memory as a symbol of hope and aspiration, as reflected in the region’s rich folk literature.

One of the most evocative portrayals of this migration story is found in the popular folk play, “Jat-Jatin.” This heartfelt play brings to life the emotional turmoil experienced by families when a husband contemplates leaving for Morang Desh in search of work. The play features a poignant song that beautifully captures the wife’s plea as she implores her husband not to depart:

Morang morang suniye ge jatti
Morang jaye hamara jai dahi he jatti
Morang morang suniye he jatta
Morang nahi jaye debau re jatta
Morang me paisa kamabe ge jatti
Mahine me tora bheajobe ge jatti

Aab jattin jai de morang

Paisa ke aagiya lagawage re jatta
Ganwe me sang sang kamewe re jatta
Noon roti sath sath khaybe re jatta
Sukh dukh sath gawabe re jatta

Aap jatta nai jo morang”

In this heartfelt song, the husband expresses his desire to seek opportunities in Morang Desh, driven by the need to earn a livelihood. However, the wife, equally aware of the struggles they might face, makes a plea to survive on simple sustenance, emphasizing the importance of staying together.

The question naturally arises: Why have the people of Bihar been migrating for over a century? The answer, as indicated by a report from the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO), lies in the pursuit of employment opportunities. Many find themselves without work in their place of origin or seek better opportunities elsewhere.

Our products’ name, Chhatthi Mai, Sohar, Sama Chakewa, and Mohan, are deeply intertwined with the cultural tapestry of Bihar. Each name resonates with the essence of this vibrant region:

Chhatthi Mai: The name “Chhatthi Mai” is a tribute to the famous festival of Bihar, Chhath, a celebration that worships the life-giving Sun. This festival is deeply cherished by the people of Bihar and holds  a special place in their hearts. The name “Chhatthi  Mai” signifies our connection to the cultural roots of Bihar and our commitment to honoring its traditions.

Sohar: “Sohar” is a traditional song sung during the auspicious occasion of a baby’s birth. It encapsulates the joy and celebration that surround the arrival of a new life. Our brand “Sohar” embodies the cultural richness of Bihar and the profound significance of these cherished moments.

Sama Chakewa: “Sama Chakewa” is named after the famous song sung to celebrate the festival of brothers and sisters in Bihar. This festival, like the song, represents the strong bonds of love and siblinghood. We take inspiration from the warmth and togetherness of this celebration, reflecting it in our brand.

Mohan: The name “Mohan” pays homage to the cultural heritage of Bihar. It is a tribute to the timeless traditions and values of the region. “Mohan” stands as a symbol of our commitment to preserving and celebrating the cultural richness of Bihar.

At Morang Desh Ventures Pvt. Ltd., we are committed to addressing the historical challenges faced by the people of Bihar and providing sustainable solutions. Our core mission is to empower rural communities by creating employment opportunities close to their homes, celebrating the “Khushboo of Bihar” and honouring the cultural traditions that define this region. We have honed our expertise in agarbatti (incense stick) making, an art that offers a unique blend of tradition and commerce. In this endeavor, we focus on training rural women in agarbatti production, while the marketing aspects are skilfully handled by male members of the family. This distinctive approach allows us to generate employment for both male and female members, enabling them to earn a decent living right in their birthplace.

Vision – To build a self sufficient and economically feasible eco system for the villagers of Rampur Samthu while churning our innovative and fragrant incense products for people across the country and the globe.

Mission – To impart skill to every resident of Rampur Samthu and neighbouring villages, generate employment for people irrespective of gender and to prevent emmigration of villagers in search of jobs.

In essence, Morang Desh Ventures is not just a company; it is a tapestry of hope, a promise of empowerment, and  a symbol of transformation. We weave dreams, transform lives, and celebrate the fragrant essence, the “Khushboo,” of Bihar, drawing inspiration from the festival of Chhath, the song of Sohar, the celebration of Sama Chakewa, and the timeless traditions represented by Mohan, one agarbatti at a time.
